Episode description:In this episode Irina speaks to Gözde Sütçü about her inner journey in the attempt to reconnect with the core of her being and find joy in life. During a few months in Uppsala, Sweden, where she had come to study European visual arts, Gözde created a body of work that she titled Anxiety for meaning, showing at Eko Caféet in Uppsala December 15-January 15, 2011. Gözde shares how she started painting and how painting without concern for the outcome increased her self-understanding and helped her release the pain she had been carrying for years. Gözde speaks about her fascination with trees, how the materials she uses for painting or sculpturing are in line with her vision and shares about her first encounter with the gallery world in Sweden. In Part 2 of the show Irina introduces some of the topics that she would like to explore in 2012: string theory and modern physics; voice as the expression of who we are and finding our true voice; skepticism and the idea behind the skeptics movement; critical thinking and what it takes to discipline our mind; working with our dreams as a way to inform our waking life and Jungian dream analysis; transformative power of expressive arts. Irina also shares the names of the two people she consideres to be her teachers and would like to invite for a conversation on Open Questions: artist, art teacher and author Peter London and poet, author and speaker David Whyte. We welcome ideas and suggestions of who Irina could invite as a guest to speak on the subjects mentioned above.
Featured music track:Uppsala-bound (although not for much longer) Alex Tael brings into the show a tad of romantic melancholia with his own song Julsaga (Kommer du hem till jul?) (SE), Christmas fairytale (Are you coming home for Christmas?).
Bonus track:We close the year and the season of Open Questions by J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio performed by the reward-winning a capella group from Sweden The Real Group and recorded during one of their live performances. Irina and Marian (guest on #OQ11) had it confirmed that TRG were as real and as fantastic as they were reported to be and enjoyed TRG concert at UKK in Uppsala on December 11, 2011.
